My son-in-law Joe and I took a walk on Williston's newest public park and trail yesterday, the Sucker Brook Country Park. It wends its way from the trailhead, just north of Butternut Rd. on Rt. 2A, through a beautiful hemlock and deciduous forest, up to the overlook at Five Tree Hill. From this point one has beautiful views of the Champlain Valley and Adirondacks, stretching from the Dix Range to Whiteface. The walk is about 2-2.5 mi round-trip, and the new trail and bridges are of very high quality, installed mostly by the Vt. YCC.
I didn't have my binocs with me, but the midday chorus included Barred Owl, B-c Chickadee, White-br Nuthatch, Red-eyed Vireo, E. Wood Pewee, Veery, Hermit Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, Black-thr Green Warbler, House Finch, and Am. Goldfinch.
I highly recommend this walk and will be interested in keeping track of the birds there as time goes by.
