Late this afternoon I observed an immature Black-crowned Night Heron at the Muddy Brook marsh on route 116 (Hinesburg Road) in South Burlington. This bird was perched on a branch of the fallen dead tree at the back of the marsh. Shortly thereafter a Green Heron flew over the marsh heading in the general direction of Shelburne Pond. This was the first immature Black-crowned Night Heron I have seen at this location this year. Green Herons have shown up here only in the past week or so, although they have been present in the marsh next to Pond Road for some time.
