I, too, have noticed their absence.  There is always a thriving bunch in my next door neighbor dairyman's barn, and "vit-vitting" all over my fields all summer long.  I saw a few of them earlier this spring (May 7) but have not seen them since, and I don't think they are nesting in his barn this year…..
