Hi all!
Just a quick note to share some great learning tools offered by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that I have enjoyed. Information on all of the following can be found at their website http://www.birds.cornell.edu
1. All about birds -- their free on-line field guide http://www.allaboutbirds.org/page.aspx?pid=1189#.UegSe1MZ-Ac
2. Birds of North America On-line -- the complete 18000 page American Ornithologist compendium of birds and behavior (subscription) http://bna.birds.cornell.edu/bna/
3. "Inside Birding" tutorials -- Birding aid videos on using size/shape, color, behavior and habitat to ID birds http://www.allaboutbirds.org/page.aspx?pid=1270#.UegTQ1MZ-Ad
4. Webinars with Kevin McGowan -- His first series on Waterfowl ID was great! Right now you can sign up for a 3 webinar series on Shorebird ID (to be run in late July and Aug). Hurry -- space is limited. The webinars are $10 each. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/courses/home/webinars/
5. On-line course: Investigating Behavior: Courtship & Rivalry in Birds A five week on-line course with videos, discussions and activities ($295 -- less for lab members) http://www.birds.cornell.edu/courses/courtship/
6. Intro to Bird Biology -- a college credit distance learning course. This has been around for decades. I started it back in the 80's but ran out of free time. The text is currently out of print. But a new version is being prepared for publication next year. Then this will be up and running again. (PS the Lab says that anyone who can get his / her hands on the out of print text can still take the course in the meantime.)
Enjoy.
