PhD studentship at the MARUM in Bremen, Germany to potential candidates.
In case of questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Kindest regards,
Enno
The MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University
of Bremen, Germany, has an opening for a PhD project in the area of
paleoclimate studies.
The overarching goal of the research area “Ocean and Climate” is to
employ marine archives to reconstruct past environmental change and to
promote a better understanding of its causes and consequences. The PhD
project, which is part of the DFG Research Center/Cluster of Excellence
“The Ocean in the Earth System”, will focus on the link between past
rainfall and vegetation changes in the Amazon catchment and their
consequences for terrigenous elemental and water discharge.
Specifically, the aim is to identify linkages to ocean circulation
changes by using specific lipid biomarkers and their compound-specific
isotope compositions. The investigations will be based on modern samples
from the Amazon River and offshore high-resolution sedimentary archives.
These sites will allow for a detailed land-sea correlation through the
complementary use of terrestrial and marine proxies. This study is
directed towards a better understanding of the interaction between
external and internal forcing factors and environmental changes in the
Amazon system and will be conducted in close cooperation with Brazilian
colleagues.
Applicants should have a Diploma or M.Sc. in geosciences or a related
discipline. Experience in organic geochemistry and stable isotope
geochemistry is most welcome. The successful candidate has strong
capabilities in team work, is fluent in English and has a disposition to
publish results in international journals.
The position is for a period of up to 3 years. Salary will be according
to the German civil service remuneration system E13/66.6% TV-L.
The University of Bremen is particularly aiming to increase the number
of female researchers. Applications from female candidates,
international applications and applications of academics with a
migration background are explicitly welcome
In case of equal personal aptitudes and qualification, disabled persons
will be given priority.
