On the Burlington Bike Path just north of the Star Farm Dog Park is a beautiful overlook that offers an expansive view of Lake Champlain from Rock Point to the south to Delta Park to the north and New York to the west. This fall I've been visiting it regularly and it's proving to be a sweet spot for water fowl. At 12:30 today there were several hundred Common Goldeneye, three Horned Grebe, a selection of gulls, more than 50 Mallards,a few Black Ducks. An adult Bald Eagle soared low and slow overhead. Some waterfowl floated farther out but I could not identify them because my spotting scope was shaking in the wind and I ran out of time. Possibly scaup.
This fall I've also seen geese, mergansers, loons. In past years there were large rafts of divers.
This is a great spot, worthy of more eyes. Check it out.
