Hi all,

The UPS man delivered me a new spotting scope and tripod today so I took it
down the road to Lake Dunmore to test it out on the growing flock of Canada
Geese that has been hanging around Branbury Beach lately. There was a
family playing with their dogs on the beach when I arrived so of course the
geese were not present. However, they were relocated not far away off the
shore from Camp Keewaydin. Counting by fives, I estimated there to be
between 700-750 geese, although I feel this was still a conservative
estimate. I did not see any Cackling Geese or other interesting geese, but
about half the flock was resting with heads tucked so there very well may
be something in there if anyone wants to check.

There were also several other ducks feeding around the geese and around the
point into North Cove. Of note, there was a female Barrow's Goldeneye in
with 2 male and 4 female Common Goldeneyes. She had a short, yellow bill,
steep forehead, and noticeably less white on the wing coverts when her and
a female Common Goldeneye took flight side by side. This is the first BAGO
I have seen on Lake Dunmore.
