Two determined women birders arrived at Gregg Hill Rd in search of the hawk owl. Wasn't present but we waited and I found a shrike perched at a distance.
Tried several other likely spots with no luck. Returned to the pull off and after a little while I spied the owl land on a distant pine tree. Observed it for a time and then a raven flew onto the scene. It hovered over the owl with its legs hanging down and had what appeared to be a vole in its beak! It was as if taunted the owl saying I've got lunch and you don't.
