Hi All:
Sad to see so little activity on this list; specially when the talk of
the town is the 'making' of VT into a high-tech, investor-friendly,
magnet. I'm surprised there's no chatter on this wire anymore.
Nevertheless, I though perhaps before doing the post to CList I'd start
my adventure here by asking if anyone has the soldering skills needed to
re-bond the micro-usb port on my Nokia N900; which did the dirtnap last
month. It used to charge/data fine and I don't trust myself to get it
right.
Below are salient points slurped from netsearching.
Any references forwarded are mightly appreciated.
Hope tech is treating all of you well,
Rion

A while back, I noticed that my wall charger's plug was rather loose and
it would wiggle. I thought it was normal since i'm used to some USB
plugs being loose in other devices. (I never realized it or cared too
much of it, but I realize now that my phone would have to have the plug
a certain way to get a charge). Fast forward a good few months, and my
USB cable would get very touchy with charging (even touching and moving
the cable slightly would get a charge-notcharging-charging sound quickly
as the cable would move. Now, it won't even realize that it's plugged
in. I think the USB port might be slightly crooked too.

while solid soldering USB port isn't very hard, it also isn't trivial. I
would not like to send my N900 to someone that got just "basic"
soldering skills - really.

The port is not loose, the tiny connector in the middle is broken.
recreating connection via battery pads is relatively easy.

for repairing a detached socket i recommend to install the new socket
upside down . the pins are more accessible to solder

Well my turn, my usb connector came off, but the funny thing if i push
it back in and hold it in a certain angle the contact still seem to
allow the device to charge... i have now completly turned it off to save
battery, so i can somehow backup my data... any sugestions how to do
this let me know.
Soldering really is the only way forward and a permanent fix.
