I'll try to give some better directions for anyone attempting to locate the Ptarmigan.
Coming from the west drive through St Johnsbury on State highway Rte. 2. Follow route 2 east towards East St. Johnsbury and Concord. You will pass by Maple Grove Sugar Factory/Store on right hand side (south) side of road. I would keep eyes open from this point all the way to the Fairbanks Scale Factory/Warehouse which is on the right side of road also a few miles further east.
Rt. 2 is busy 50 mph road. Try parking at Fairbanks Scales parking lot (huge lot and probably empty on weekends) or there is a dirt pull off directly across from the entrance to Fairbanks Scales and then walking back along shoulders of road to search.
The bird was last seen on the north side of road where there is a curve and lots of rocks on the side of the hill (see video) about 400' west of the entrance to Fairbanks Scales.
There is slight hill on north side with much vegetation. Also on the south side but area is difficult to 'bird'
The bird was also seen earlier yesterday in back of the Fairbanks Scales building. There is old railroad tracks and some nice habitat to check. There is a paved walkway also back there for some access.
