I joined Ed Hack, George Clark, and Sara Eisenhauer for the western portion of their birdathon today. Quite a productive afternoon.
The highlight for me was the large number of terns present. From Chimney Point north to Arnold Bay we tallied a minimum of 63 Common, 3 Black and 2 Caspian. All three species were present at Arnold Bay, but the biggest number of Commons (35+) were just north of the Champlain Bridge, near the New York shore. Impossible to tell if other small, rare, terns were mixed in.
Other highlights included Blue-winged Teal and Black-billed Cuckoo (Cornwall Swamp), Green-winged Teal and Swainson's Thrush (Turkey Lane), 3 Red-breasted Merganser (Arnold Bay), and 5+ Prairie Warblers and 1 Golden-winged Warbler (Cram Rd. in Leicester).
Spring isn't over yet!
