eBird mavens, I need some help. In the past, I was quite casual and low-tech about my life list. I just kept it in a table in a Word document, and I never bothered to document the specific dates on which birds were seen - I was satisfied with noting month and year only (as well as location, of course).
Now that I'm using eBird and have mobile devices - and am slightly less casual about birding - I'd really like eBird to be the repository for my life list. To integrate my pre-eBird list, I was planning to just enter my old sightings into eBird as historical data.
However, I hit a snag: eBird won't allow entry of data without a precise sighting date.
I understand why, and I certainly will not fudge dates and put the integrity of eBird data at risk.
So, am I just stuck with my old method, or using third-party software or apps? Or is there some way to either add sightings to eBird for my personal use only (without having them become part of the historical record) or to add them without including a day as well as a month and year?
