Yesterday morning, over sixty of our fellow Vermont birders arrived at CrossHaven Farm to meet up with over 80 species of birds -- and share some great lies (oh, right, that's the fishermen, not the birders) and super BBQ!
It was a really wonderful gathering with many people who have not made it to this event in past years. And many who are now two and three year veterans of the trails on the old farm.
Thanks to the my fellow MadBirders for sponsoring the event and providing so much of the volunteer work and cooking that made it all come off so well once again. And to our walk leaders: Chip, Ali, Pat, Larry for making it such a great learning experience for so many of us.
A special thank you to those who donated the incredible door prizes -- Ian Clark who brought two beautiful prints (Wood Duck and Snowy Owl), Maeve Kim who donated a copy of her recently published novel and Liz Lackey who offered up a huge comprehensive volume of Audubon's Birds of America. Congrats to the winners!
Our sincere appreciation to everyone who donated to the "birders' social conscience" fund. This year, we once again raised over $1000 ($1100 actually) to be divided between the North Branch Nature Center, and Vermont Center for EcoStudies.
There were so many people that I am proud to call friends here yesterday, that I know I didn't gat a chance to greet you all and say thank your for coming and helping support the organizations that keep "wonder" alive in the world. Pat and I loved having you all with us on such a beautiful May morning!
On behalf of Pat, myself, and the MadBirders -- thanks again, we'll see you next year!
