Yesterday NEK Audubon held its Quest for Birds. We try to find 100 species or more in about 12 hours of birding in the Kingdom only. We were able to come up with 110 species and enjoyed good views of many of them. Early in the day a NEK Audubon friend, Brian, came up with the 'Grand Slam' at Moose bog for us and then later that afternoon a few of us revisited the Moose Bog trail and found a male Spruce Grouse and 1 Boreal Chickadee.
We wound up with 20 species of warblers ( Palm, Pine, Tennessee, Blackpoll and Canada among them) Shorebirds were few (Solitary, Spotted and Snipe) as well as waterfowl (but Blue-winged Teal & Ring-necked Duck) and the Heron/Egret family (Great Blue Heron only) but we had 5 American Bitterns and 2 Virginia rails & 2 Pied-billed Grebes. Also an Acadian Flycatcher in Peacham and 3 or 4 Willow Flycatchers.
