Lynda,
You will need to add these systems to the CAMPUS domain in order to
obtain the client and management functionality from ConfigMgr. Using
local accounts is fine since, the patching mechanism uses the system
account. You may want to login during Patch Tuesday monthly cycles to
install updates prior to their mandatory deadline to avoid reboots
during production. If you have further questions, you can reach out to
me directly.
