Since I have too much free time...one more observation
Let's highlight our international nature as often as we can...World Debate, in BP format, is one of the few forensics activities that truly embraces the world community...look around and you'll see our students/coaches in China working with schools, in Mexico at conferences...Robert Trapp, Tuna, Steve Johnson and so many others are pouring energy into building bridges...I deeply admire those efforts.
We should be proud of those initiatives and sing that out as a chorus...
Example: when Portland State decided to host a BP tournament last year, they coined "The Cascade Cup" as a title...the next time we competed in Canada I heard all the Canadian schools saying "will we see you at the Cascade Cup?" they clearly felt invited/included/embraced - and they were eager to attend.
The more often we trumpet our values in our names and invitations, the more often the world will respond to our warm welcome!!
In other words, World Debate is more than argument v argument....it's an inclusive outreach across borders, inviting all voices to the table to discuss ways to a more peaceful world.
Maybe we should craft a vision statement...everyone seems allergic to bylaws, but how about a World Debate Mission Statement? A vision?
Let's embrace those values in all we do. In labels, in workshops, at tournaments...

Hi Brent,
Please remove the Claremont Colleges tournament from the BP calendar. Have
15 tournaments and conferences planned on campus for the year and
something had to give, at least in the early fall. I have a redesigned
debate tournament model that I would like to introduce this year (was
hoping to do it in October but need to be a good citizen about campus
facility use) but may be able to do it in the spring.
One other note Greater Los Angeles is an extraordinary international
alpha city, with complex, thriving, enriching, and influential populations
and cultures from throughout the world. I understand how it is that an
imagined Los Angeles may escape its cartographic boundaries and represent
all peoples and places it is Druze, Russian, Peruvian, Japanese, Jewish,
Azeri, Filipino, Zuni, Indian, Mexican, Fijian, Chinese, Italianit is
Ethiopia, Hawaiši, Sri Lanka, Armenia, Pennsylvania, Korea, Brazil, South
Africa, El Salvador, Ireland, Tunisia, Oklahoma, ThailandLos Angeles is
astounding and universal. But for those on the list just interested in
purchasing an airline ticket, it may be helpful to re-locate future
Claremont tournaments from the imagination and current psychic-location in
Eastern US/Canada for a move to the Western US/Canada column.
