Don’t install any of the optional printer driver updates offered by Microsoft’s Windows Update.
This is really only something that a zealous updater would get into, but just fair warning that many of our users have Kyocera Taskalfa printer drivers installed, and thus Windows Update will offer an optional update for those drivers.
Installing that update will pretty much kill the entire print service on the computer until the drivers are removed.
Symptoms include Microsoft Office apps refusing to shut down, crashing when attempting to save or print, printing errors from all applications, etc etc
To remove the drivers, you’ll need to run the setup program included with Kyocera’s real drivers, uninstall everything, restart and then reinstall via whatever means originally used (AD Print Queue or Standard TCP/IP).
I’ve seen similar if slightly less severe behavior with an HP printer specific optional update also offered by Windows Update.
