sorry to repost, but this position is still open, for anyone out there interested in Mesozoic sediments. While the project is linked to the oil and gas industry, the project is largely focused on characterising major environmental perturbations as recorded on the Arabian Shelf, as there are very few records from the UAE, more information can be found at

The Petroleum Geoscience Department at The Petroleum Institute, University and Research Centre, Abu Dhabi, UAE seeks to hire a qualified Postdoctoral Researcher to work on a project titled "Jurassic - Cretaceous Unconventional and Tight Reservoir Characterization". This is a five-year project focusing on developing high-resolution chemostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and understanding basin history for the Jurassic and Cretaceous of the Arabian Shelf, specifically the UAE. The post-doctoral researcher will be based at the Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi.
The successful candidate will be involved in evaluating available core and outcrops material of relevant Mesozoic rocks and conducting geochemical analysis of samples. The candidate will be involved in chemostratigraphic and sedimentological studies of the available material and will be responsible to generate high-resolution chemostratigraphic records, specifically carbon (organic and carbonate) and oxygen isotope records, as well as organic matter characterization, that provide valuable information specifically related to evidence of oceanic anoxic events on the Arabian Shelf during the interval of interest. This work will contribute to generating a larger integrated stratigraphic framework for the UAE and will assist in locating potential unconventional and tight gas reservoirs.
Qualification: Minimum PhD in Earth Science or Geoscience.
Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential.
The ability to conduct research at the highest level, as demonstrated by a documented research track record, including internationally significant publications and presentations at international conferences;
The ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, and to network effectively with the
project sponsor and other colleagues externally, and to set up new contacts;
A PhD in stratigraphy, sedimentology and/or chemostratigraphy;
Field experience in stratigraphy and sedimentology and/or experience with core material
Laboratory experience in sedimentary petrology of mudrocks and carbonates
Other desirable qualifications:
Experience with carbon, oxygen, strontium isotopes
Experience with biomarkers
Experience with SEM and other petrographic techniques
Experience with organic matter characterization
Experience with other novel isotope systems (Mo, Fe, U etc..)
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package, including housing and furniture allowance, educational allowance for dependent children, annual airfare allowance, and medical care. The United Arab Emirates levy no income tax.
