In the email of a few days ago, copied below, are the instructions for
the two new eBird categories for submitting checklists, "Nocturnal
Birding" and "Banding." However, a temporary glitch has been
discovered, which will be corrected when the holidays are over.
If you are submitting via the Vermont eBird portal
(ebird.org/ebird/vt/) "Nocturnal Birding" and "Banding" are missing
from the list of submission choices under "Other." However, if you
submit via the general eBird website (eBird.org/ebird/) they are present
and can be used by anyone.
If you are unsure how you normally submit your checklists, once you have
started to submit look up a very top left of the page and see either
"Vermont eBird" or "eBird." I don't know if this format is universal
for all applications, but the designators should appear somewhere. [A
few of you use other eBird portals; if so, their designation will appear
in the same location.]
By the way, this is the season when most nocturnal birding will be
owling. Read the full instructions for Nocturnal Birding at:
http://help.ebird.org/customer/portal/articles/1740199. In the
instructions for how to make entries, owls are used as examples.
