First of all, great photos Isis- thanks and I agree that it is a male.
I believe that this bird is now definitively identifiable after looking at
the photo (YHBL 9) as a 1st winter male. The proof is in the incredibly
well shown- white tipped greater primary coverts. This can also be seen in
the (YHBL 8) photo. A difficult picture to get but great job.
