I was with some folks on the Vermont side of the lake for much of Saturday and we had a great day. Highlights included:
Red-tailed and Rough-legged Hawks - everywhere.N. Harriers - a few scattered on Basin Harbor Road and Nortontown Road among othersMerlin - Basin Harbor Road North of the Harris's SparrowHorned Larks (everywhere) and Snow Buntings along Nortontown RoadSnowy Owl - Gage Road. We went there for the Short-eared Owls and saw a Snowy with lots of other folks gathered there. Heavy fog rolled in and the entire landscape disappeared. So we left without the Short-eareds. But a Snowy is not bad consolation!Harris's Sparrow - along Basin Harbor Road in the previously reports spot. The bird alternated between being in the bushes along the wet area to the bushes along the road next to the juniper, to the bird feeders and the bushes next to the house across the street (#2666). Lots of activity there including Tree Sparrows and a lingering Song Sparrow.
In addition, the ice edge on Bulwagga Bay in NYS is advancing and there were nice numbers of ducks along it. It won't be long before the bridge area sees some of that action.
