The Forensic Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (FIRMS) Network (http://www.forensic-isotopes.org/index.html) was founded to develop the scope of stable isotope techniques in forensic applications.
The FIRMS purpose is to raise awareness of the relevance and importance of IRMS in forensic science, crime detection and reduction.
FIRMS brings together chemists, physicists, materials scientists and life scientists who employ IRMS in their respective fields. FIRMS is helping to focus collective knowledge and expertise on improving methods for crime detection and reduction.
The FIRMS Network is now certified to the international quality standard ISO9001 for the approval of forensic practitioners in the field of isotope forensics.
As part of the FIRMS goals proficiency tests are organised on samples that are of potential forensic interest.
Up till now the IRMS samples from these proficiency tests were for EA- IRMS analysis. Presently FIRMS collaborates with LGC (www.lgcstandards.com) to provide these tests.
We perceive, however, that there may also be a growing interest, both within FIRMS as well as outside FIRMS, in proficiency tests that are suitable for GC-IRMS analysis.
This message on behalf of FIRMS is to find what interest there is in providing GC-IRMS proficiency tests. Please respond both on-line and off-line to this message.
