One thing to keep in mind if patron is interested in impact factor, if the journal isn't in Journal Citation Reports it isn't going to have an impact factor. There are many good journals that are OA and not OA that don't have an impact factor. However if one of his priorities is impact factor then I wouldn't publish in anything that isn't listed in Journal Citation Reports.
Additionally, many researchers don't always understand that if they find some articles in PubMed that doesn't mean the journal is indexed MEDLINE or PubMed. There is a backdoor method for getting your article that isn't published in a MEDLINE indexed journal into PubMed. Authors who use NIH funds submit their article to PMC and those articles are found by searching PubMed. I know of some researchers who see no distinction between PMC submitted journal articles from non-indexed journals and ones that are indexed in MEDLINE. To them it is in PubMed and that is good enough.
So I would check to see if the journal is indexed by MEDLINE, just having a few article from the journal in PubMed is not enough.
IMHO

Subject: [MEDLIB-L] CHAT: Help with Beall's List, please
I think I am searching incorrectly through this very important resource. My patron gave me a list of 7 titles he will use for possible submission. He found them on JANE (great!), but he wants me to check them out re predatory publishing and impact factor. I've never done this in this field (translational medicine), so I could use some help, please!
On Beall's site, In StandAlone Journals, I enter the journal title (ex: Biology of Bone & Marrow Transplant). This sends me to a page listing a serial entitled OA Alcohol (??), but that journal (and others) is published by a group called OA Publishing London, so I clicked on that. I cannot find either the exact journal title or any journal title resembling Bio of Bone & Marrow Transplant or even that they publish any title in that field.
What am I doing wrong?
What I am trying to do is check that the 7 journal titles my patron sent me are NOT on Beall's list, but this is proving difficult. Another title, Journal of Translational Research, sent me to a page within Beall's warning about the OMICS Group-but again, this title is not found under that umbrella. Why do these pages show up as a "result" if I can find no link between the title and the publisher? Any ideas? Many TIA.
The 7 titles:
Bone Marrow Transplantation (not found on Beall's) American Journal of Translational Research Biology of Blood & Marrow Transplant Translational Medicine Translational Research (Journal of Lab and Clinical Medicine) Journal of Translational Research Translational Medicine & Biotechnology
