At around 11 to 1130 today (Monday, 30 November) from the entrance at Brilyea Access, Dead Creek WMA, we observed several thousand Snow Geese heading from NW toward SE, presumably the birds that have been on the NY side of the lake this fall (?). It was definitely a "wow" event. I spotted at least 3 Ross's, and surely there were others -- it was such an awesome spectacle that I sort of forgot to "bird." I guess I kind of "zenned" out. <g>
Oh, yes, we were conducting the first of the season Winter [not yet arrived] Raptor Survey (www.hmana.org), and logged 21 Redtails, 2 Northern Harriers, 1 Peregrine Falcon, and 1 Cooper's Hawk in our survey area.
