Earlier today I went to Dead Creek with my birding pals Phil and Kris to see the Snow Geese and possibly locate a Snowy Owl. We did see the Snow Geese, probably a flock of 2000+ and several flocks of Snow Buntings, a few American Tree Sparrows and a small raptor, probably a Kestrel. Did not see any owls.
On the way out of the southern access road (Brilyea Access?) we saw a quail-like bird crossing the road. We stopped and got our cameras. After a few minutes we figured out that this bird was not a Bobwhite or a quail. It was a Chukar. It must have escaped from somewhere nearby, maybe a private hunting preserve. I remember seeing them 30 years ago in the Steen Mountains in eastern Oregon.
Here is link to one photo I took. I may post one or two more later.
