Hi All & Happy New Year!
This evening while down at Gage Rd both Taj Schottland and Craig Zondag
drove in and the three of us were lucky enough to not only find Lapland
Longspurs in with a large flock of Snow Buntings, but we were treated to
the honor of seeing three Short-eared Owls (SEOW)! The SEOW started flying
a fair bit before it was too dark, and was in fact light enough for photos
(barely) had they been closer. But we were afforded wonderful views of
these beautiful owls.
The SEOW were all flying near the old barn. Two mostly to the left of it,
both in the fields between the barn and Rte. 17 and the swale along the
front of the barn and continuing to the left. The third was sometimes
behind the barn and also flying in the field to the right of the drive to
the barn (same side as the Willow tree).
Best of luck to anyone who decides to try for these beauties. My list from
my afternoon on Gage Rd is below for anyone interested in the nice variety
I encountered today.
