Early this afternoon I believe that I observed a male Barrow's goldeneye in a large raft of waterfowl that I observed from the boat launch under the Champlain bridge. As I scoped the assemblage looking for a canvasback (which I did not find) this individual with dark black back and brilliant contrasting white spots jumped out at me, clearly different from the neighboring common goldeneyes.
Good luck, good birding
