Drove to Moose Bog early encountered 3 large mixed flocks of finches on the
roads there. One on highway 114, 5 miles south of Island Pond had about 150
birds with mostly Purple Finch and Pine Siskin, Am. Goldfinch mixed in. The
second flock on highway 105 near the new Maple Sugar plant had about 100
finches mostly Purple Finch and Pine Siskins (with a few dead Siskins from
cars). The third flock of about 75 birds 200 yards west of the 105 pull-off
had a mix of Purple Finch, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch, one female Red
Crossbill and one snow bunting. At the 105 pull-off a lone Snow Bunting.
At Moose bog 3 Boreal Chickadees came for close views along with 5 Gray Jays
as at least a dozen or more White-winged Crossbills flew all along the
trail. Oh and possible Lynx began walking across 105 from northside (conte)
towards south side (wenlock) but darted over railroad tracks as I pulled to
a stop. No time for picture other than its tracks. Pretty good sized cat, I
want to say more grayish to me . My first thought was Lynx but most likely
Bobcat as you know how that goes.
