I've been several times. Everywhere is great.
I saw the most variety of birds around Fortuna/Arenal area. I stayed at a lodgewith a view of the volcano ( I don't remember which one, there are several, nearTabacon springs), where the birding was fantastic. The area around the lodge waspretty open, so good views of birds flying over.
A guide recommended http://www.trogonlodge.com/ for quetzals. I have notstayed there or visited, but I would next time.
Monteverde is always good. I saw a baby toucan looking out of a hole in a tree there once... my best memory.
I was going to recommend also vistadelvalle plantation inn, not far from San Jose butit looks like it has closed. Too bad. Beautiful place far above a river with lots of greatbirding right there.

I am thinking about a photo birding trip to Costa Rica. If I have a week to visit, which places I should consider to be a priority? Any tour operators that you recommend? Tips on logistics appreciated. If anyone is interested on going to Costa Rica this year, please let me know. Thank you.
