There is a nice variety of waterfowl at Fort Cassin at the moment and the ice is out of the bay. In addition to the usual Canada Geese, Mallards, Black Ducks, Common Mergansers, and Common Goldeneye, I spotted 10 American Wigeon, 5 Northern Pintails, 14 Ring-necked Ducks, 16 Hooded Mergansers, 2 Bufflehead, and a single Red-breasted Merganser this afternoon. Surprisingly, I saw only one adult Bald Eagle that was perched in a tree across the bay enjoying the waterfowl spectacle as much as I was, though likely for a different reason.

Migration is happening.
