I was able to find the Painted Bunting easily at the feeders north of the
fire station in Pittsfield, VT. The owner of the property was very nice and
I watched the bird with her at the feeder and in the bushes. She is quite
amenable to having birders around, but lets all remember to be as
respectful as possible of the area. She first found the bird on Wed.
If you look at my images (highly cropped) on this Vermont eBird checklist
- http://ebird.org/ebird/vt/view/checklist?subID=S28414635 - you can see
that the bird is letting its foot hang loose. Closeup view shows it to be
deformed I think, as was mentioned Taj yesterday. It is clearly not working
well or at all. Also, the bird appeared to be quite cold and often kept its
head tucked down and feathers fluffed up.
