Greetings,
I would like to invite all of you to attend this year’s Colgate University Summer Debate Institute. It will be held (surprisingly) at Colgate University from July 13-17. We are very excited to bring this event that has been held at Denver University the past two years out to the east coast this summer.
The camp will follow the previous year’s format of 3 days of intense (8 hours a day) training followed by a 2 day “Individual’s Tournament.” We have secured affordable housing on campus in the dorms as well as a meal plan to make things as convenient as possible for participants.
Trainers: Josh Martin will be leading the training, and will be joined by Stephen Llano. We are in the process of talking to other potential staff to ensure the highest level of instruction possible, but to give people a chance to put this on their calendars we thought that we should announce details asap. We will post additional trainers as they are pressured into joining.
Lodging: Dorm housing along with a 3 meal a day meal plan is being offered for $60 a day. So, to arrive on Tuesday night (the 12th) and leave Sunday night (the 17th) the total cost of room and board would be $300. I believe that we will be able to prorate this for anyone with an alternative schedule.
Registration: Registration is open immediately, the fee being $75 per person maxing out at $250 per institution. So, to send 4 people or 20 (Cornell) would cost the same flat fee. Registration deadline will be July 3rd.
Individuals Tournament: This uniquely formatted BP tournament gives debaters the chance to compete without bringing a preset partner. Each round they will be given a new partner based on team and speaker points from the previous round. It will consist of 6 preliminary rounds to either a semi or final. We are opening registration to the tournament portion of the camp up to anyone, regardless of whether or not they attended the previous three days of training. Registration for the tournament by itself will be $20 per person.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [log in to unmask]
Look forward to seeing you all at Colgate!
Cheers,
Josh Martin
