If you are a new rep for your school, and have not received an email to vote, feel free to contact me. This is just a reminder if you have not been on Facebook lately to see bids. Below is the bid from the University of La Verne.

>> Official Bid
>> It is with the best intent that the University of La Verne is bidding to host the 2017 Pan Am Debate Tournament. We have administration support and we are excited to bring another tournament back to the La Verne community. Debate at La Verne has been around since 1912 and for our centennial, we hosted the USUDC in 2013. It is our pleasure to kick off our university’s 125th year of existence by hosting such an important and emerging tournament. It is also our hope to help facilitate this tournament to travel to many new areas, not just the U.S. and the Caribbean, but our friends in Latin America and South America. This year we hope to be another proud host of this tournament. Thank you for your consideration!

>> Host
>> The University of La Verne was founded in 1891 by the Church of the Bretheren. This year marks our 125th anniversary. We are a liberal arts university 20 miles outside of Los Angeles. We are a Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI), and we value diversity and community service, alongside many other values that allow for a rich debate environment. We have hosted the USUDC in 2013, bringing over 50 universities and colleges, with a total of 160 teams, both nationally and internationally.

>> Hotel
>> We are in negotiation for low rates for our debaters, judges, and guests. We are in talks with the Sheraton, located less than a mile from campus, which also played host to our USUDC 2013. The rooms are all suites, and are quad occupancy. The other option is the Double Tree hotel by Hilton, which is 3.9 miles away (an 11 minute car ride) in Claremont. We will be updating this as soon as we gather more information.

>> Arrival
>> All participants can either fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or Ontario International Airport (ONT). The Ontario airport is only 13 miles from La Verne, and shuttles are available for a low cost, or depending on which hotel, they might offer free transportation based on arrival time. LAX has a Fly-Away bus that takes you to Union Station, and you can then take the Metrolink Rail to the La Verne station.

>> Team Cap
>> We are capping the Spanish speaking and English speaking division to 52 teams each, 104 teams total. We are enforcing the N-1 judge rule, unless constrained by cost of travel, we will then accommodate N-2 for those in need.
>> ___________________________________________________
>> Tab Staff
>> English Division: Steve Llano, St. Johns University & Will Reilley, San Diego St. University.
>> Spanish Division: We are currently in talks with a well-known, respected tab team and are waiting for confirmation, but we have 99% commitment.

>> Convener & Team
>> Rob Ruiz will be the convener of the tournament. Rob was the convener of USUDC 2013, and is now Bid Coordinator for the USUDA. He is joined by his Championship Director, Sonia Concepcion, who will be handling the Spanish division announcements and arrangements. Sonia and Rob strongly believe in the type of leadership to provide the best possible resources for the CAs, who are integral and key to running a fun and great tournament, while also providing the same resources for the tab teams to work alongside the CA team. We are joined by the 32 members of the ULV Debate Team, who will be helping out when needed, as well as campus support from our clubs, and Greek organizations.
>> __________________________________________________
>> Judging Requirements
>> Judging must be provided at the N-1 level. The N-2 level will be allowed on a case-by-case basis as approved by the tournament staff. Please try to provide judges fluent in the language of the division that you are entering teams in. We are currently budgeting to help with Independent Adjudicator subsidies.
>> ___________________________________________________
>> Fees
>> Each team will cost $150 and judges and observers will be $75. We can accept check, or cash. We are currently setting up a credit card system and this will likely be another option.
>> ____________________________________________________
>> Meals and Entertainment
>> If you attended USUDC 2013, you know we take care of our guests quite well. We will be having the In N Out truck again for our guests to enjoy! We also plan on feeding you according to our La Verne hospitality, so be prepared for some good food Southern California has to offer! We are looking into very popular Taco and Burrito trucks to cater one of the meals, and we are surrounded by great restaurants and bars in walking distance of the ULV campus, which will be providing discounts all weekend long. As for entertainment, this is being negotiated, but be prepared for quite a bit of La Verne entertainment, from music, to mariachis, to bands, and surprises all around. We love our giveaways during rounds!!!!
>> Thank you for your consideration
