I have always liked this book- Every Patient Tells a Story: Medical Mysteries and the Art of Diagnosis by Lisa Sanders

In Every Patient Tells a Story, Dr. Sanders chronicles the real-life drama of doctors solving these difficult medical mysteries that not only illustrate the art and science of diagnosis, but often save the patients’ lives.

"Great read! As a physician, it was refreshing to hear a colleague describe the art and humanity of medicine while recognizing the benefits of technology. Her love of figuring out medical challenges was inspiring. I couldn't put the book down and a big 5 stars! - Dr. Mike Rocha, cardiologist, director-New Bedford Wellness Initiative, and co-founder Physicians to Prevent Opioid Abuse."

Subject: ?Inspirational book suggestions for physicians

We are looking for an inspirational book to give to physicians who complete
a multi-week educational session designed to help them reconnect with the
passion that led them to pursue medicine as a career. We are not looking
for a book about physician burnout, but something that would encourage. It
could be short readings, or a novel or nonfiction, but not too long. I will
explore options, but thought I'd ask the collective mind for suggestions.

Thank you!

Subject: Free Webinar. Insider's Guide to Accessing NLM Data: Welcome to E-utilities for PubMed

Hello all,

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, 2pm - 3pm (Eastern Time), the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) will present "Insider's Guide to Accessing NLM Data: Welcome to E-utilities for PubMed"

Want to do more with PubMed?
Want to extract just the PubMed data you need, in the format you want?
Dreaming of creating your own PubMed tool or interface, but don't know where to start?

Join us for the first in the Insider's Guide series of webinars about more powerful and flexible ways of accessing NLM data, starting with an introduction to the Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for PubMed and other NCBI databases. This series is geared toward librarians and other information specialists who have experience using PubMed via the traditional Web interface, but now want to dig deeper. This class will start with the very basics of APIs, before showing you how to get started using the E-utilities API to search and retrieve records from PubMed. The class will also showcase some specific tools and utilities that information specialists can use to work with E-utilities, helping to prepare you for subsequent Insider's Guide classes. We will finish by looking at some practical examples of E-utilities in the real world, and hopefully inspire you to get out and put these lessons to use!

Pancreatic Cancer Survival Increases with Chemo Combo.
[No authors listed]
Abstract
For patients able to have surgery for pancreatic cancer, the adjuvant use of gemcitabine plus capecitabine, instead of gemcitabine alone, leads to a significant improvement in 5-year survival, according to results of the ESPAC-4 trial. The finding will likely change the standard of care for these patients.

Good afternoon to all

I have a sort of obscure topic this afternoon. Patron needs a book chapter and an article. Willing to pay but I ask that you contact me first. ALA or Docline in you need paperwork.

The book reference:

Pregnancy in Cancer Patients and Survivors by Eileen Wang pages 129-148 in Oncofertility Medical Practice

The article reference:

Pregnancy-associated cardiomyopathy in survivors of childhood cancer
Hines, Melissa R;Mulrooney, Daniel A;Hudson, Melissa M;Ness, Kirsten K;Green, Daniel M;Howard, Scott C;Krasin, Matthew;Metzger, Monika L
Journal of Cancer Survivorship 10(1):113-21
2016-02-01

Assistance is welcome for loans or search strategy. I used PubMed "similar articles" link for the article as a known item. And I tried a simple
PubMed search

Search pregnancy AND "cancer survivor" AND cardiomyopathy Sort by: PublicationDate

I have 14 items that I believe are appropriate but no more than that.

Suggestions are welcome as always.

Subject: ILL loan: Harrison's Internal Medicine 19th ed. chaps. 314 & 315

Good afternoon everyone,

My patron is looking for the following 2 chapters from Harrison's Internal Medicine 19 ed.:
Section two: Diseases of the Respiratory System; chap. 314, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases; and chap.
315, Interstitial Lung Diseases.

We have the text but it is on the bottom shelf and it probably weighs about 3+ pounds and I am the only one who is here to copy it. I would prefer the online version.
I can put it in Docline if requested and will pay up to $40.00.

Thank you very much.

Rita

Subject: Search help needed

I've got a search request here and I'm striking out with everything I look at.

The request: Are there any articles or other information about people with disabilities who have made significant contributions to medicine or healthcare?

I've found information on disabled teachers, athletes, composers, artists, writers, inventors, scientists, actors, activists, but nothing medical or healthcare related.

Anyone have any thoughts or know of a resource?

Thanks,
Madeleine

Subject: Summary: Population Health journal

Good afternoon,

A couple of weeks ago, I inquired about what population health-focused journals people were purchasing for their libraries/institutions (if any). Many thanks to those who responded! For those interested, the journal of choice on this subject seems to be Population Health Management (MA Liebert).

Have a great afternoon!
