Applications are invited for a Workshop on Cenozoic pCO2 reconstructions from all archives – terrestrial, marine, organic and inorganic. The workshop aims to improve the network and interaction between researchers working on paleo-pCO2 and associate temperature reconstructions, as well as focus on key questions to improve our knowledge on paleo-pCO2 and its climatological consequences. The objectives of this workshop are to bring together ~50 experts on pCO2 proxies, Cenozoic paleoclimatology, and carbon cycle modeling, to discuss existing records and approaches, define future goals of paleo-pCO2 research, and find suitable time periods and locations for proxy and model validation, as well as cross-calibration in deep time. Goals of the workshop include the setup of an open source paleo-pCO2 database, a series of comprehensive synthesis publications on the topic, as well as the forging of new collaborations.
The workshop is the first of two, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation under a dedicated Research Coordination Network (RCN), which is steered by Allison Baczynski, Gabriel Bowen, Daniel Breecker, Robert DeConto, Kate Freeman, Matthew Huber, Bärbel Hönisch, Matthew Kohn, Ann Pearson, Pratigya Polissar, Christina Ravelo, Andy Ridgwell, Dana Royer, Yair Rosenthal, Kathryn Snell and Richard Zeebe. The second workshop is planned for 2018, dates and location remain to be determined.
Workshop dates and location:
This first workshop will be held at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, NY, March 15-17, 2017 (Wednesday-Friday). Participants should arrive in the evening of Tuesday, March 14, so that 3 full days can be dedicated to the workshop.
What is provided:
The U.S. National Science Foundation provides limited travel and/or accommodation support for U.S. scientists. Local transportation and meals at the venue will be provided for all participants. A limited amount of travel support to international participants is subject to a pending proposal. Please indicate on your application if you require travel support. Off-site participation will be made possible through online streaming of presentations and discussions.
