About fifteen minutes ago, I watched a flock of about a dozen birds fly overhead making a variety of excited-sounding flight calls. I saw only silhouettes, but the overall size and shape and the sound were consistent with Red Crossbills.
By the way, if anyone’s CBC route includes Jericho, the residential area off Griswold Street would be a great place to check out. Several people have feeders and there are lots of tall conifers. The bird activity and noise was impressive this morning.
We’re heading back tomorrow morning with binoculars to spend a bit of time birding.
