Dear All,
would like to bring your attention to Goldschmidt Session 17l: Deadly Kiss of the LIPs: The Role of Volcanism in Phanerozoic Environmental Change and Biotic Extinctions
Large igneous province (LIP) volcanism is commonly associated with climate perturbations through geological time and are often cited as a key cause of (mass) extinction events as well as carbon cycle perturbations. Even so, proxies that explore the direct impact of extrusive and intrusive LIP volcanism on atmosphere-ocean systems in deep time are limited. Given the widespread occurrence and impact of large igneous provinces during the Phanerozoic Eon, proxies that explore consequences of these igneous events on the climate, ocean, and ecosystems need further development and testing. We encourage submissions of abstracts that demonstrate development and application of novel and established proxies to highlight the direct impact of LIP activity during major environmental, climatic, and biotic perturbations. An emphasis is placed on proxies that highlight the link between volcanism and perturbations to the carbon cycle, sulphur, and metal cycles in the ocean-atmosphere system.
We strongly encourage submissions which explore the role of volcanism in major environmental perturbations, deadline for submissions is the 1st of April
All the best
Aisha
