Given the great weather this morning, I decided to take the long way in to work and check out the Panton Road crossing of Dead Creek and various spots along the Lake from Turkey Lane down to McCuen Slang.  I couldn’t spend enough time at any one spot to do a head count for any species that was super abundant, but there were several nice finds among them all.

Panton Rd. crossing of Dead Creek:

American Widgeon: 2 (maybe the same as the ones Scott Morrical reported on Saturday)
Green-winged Teal: 2 (ditto)
Northern Pintail: at least 24, maybe more
Canada Geese, Mallards, American Black Ducks: many

Turkey Lane/Spaulding Bay:

Common Goldeneyes: many
Greater Scaup: 1
Bufflehead: 2
Common Loons: 2
Common Mergansers: many

McCuen Slang: the ice line has retreated southward substantially since Saturday, with lots of open water out in the middle of the flow.

Wood Ducks: 2 males, 1 female
Common Mergansers: many

Plus, Ring-billed and Herring Gulls everywhere.

I didn’t record anything about passerines, but the Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles are everywhere now.
