As Vermont birders do cross the Connecticut River and bird in New Hampshire at the Setbacks location and the water fowl do drift from the Vermont (Vernon) border across the river to the New Hampshire side, I thought it worthwhile to comment on Barb Power's, Ruth Stewart's and my experience over there this week. The viewing areas are scattered along the canal road and parking is plentiful. You'll probably encounter other birders and photographers along the road. In simple words, it is a great birding area! There are many other checklists submitted to ebird March 30th, the same day we were there. Interestingly, each checklist has a different number of species and of total counts of those species. It is a wide area of water to cover and the water fowl are always shifting positions. Bald Eagles are present, also. A visit there is definitely worthwhile. I've attached our ebird checklist. It is somewhat short on species count compared to other ebird checklist from that day because my car had a flat tire and we were disrupted from our birding to deal with that issue. Leave it to say we did make it back home to Vermont.
