I’ve told several of my birding classes that they don’t have to go to hotspots to find birds; birds are everywhere, especially in the spring. This morning proved how true that is! We went to the Richmond Post Office to mail a package and heard a Red-bellied Woodpecker - so, of course, we got out our binoculars and started walking around the parking lot. We never located the woodpecker even though it called repeatedly for the entire twenty-five minutes we were there. However, we were rewarded by an Osprey flying over carrying a stick and a Merlin zooming around over our heads kee-kee-kee-ing - along with cardinals, titmice, pigeons, Red-winged Blackbirds, grackles, robins, a Downy Woodpecker, starlings, Song Sparrows, Tree Swallows, gulls and geese.
