We look for a postdoc to work on intramolecular distributions of heavy isotopes - isotopomers - for estimating biogeochemical fluxes on centennial timescales, a key unknown in Earth System Models. The successful candidate will work in a collaboration environment between soil sciences, tree physiology and biophysics.
Project and Tasks: The goal of this project is to understand isotopomer signatures of biogeochemical fluxes from the leaf level to soil organic matter. The successful candidate will use lab experiments to define isotopomer signatures under controlled conditions, and to derive interpretations of the signatures in terms of metabolic pathways. The results will be used to interpret data from field sites and paleo archives, to identify biogeochemical processes dominating on centennial time scales.
Qualifications: We are looking for a person who is excited by interdisciplinary work at the interface between biophysics, physiology and biogeosciences. PhD in biochemistry or related field. Working language in research and teaching is English. The successful candidates will use a state-of-the-art soil science lab and several long-term field manipulation experiments. KBC is equipped with state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers (www.nmrforlife.se) for advanced characterization of plant and soil organic matter and isotopomer analysis.
