...with success! Thank you to C.J. Frankiewicz and Kathleen Guinness for being in the right place at the right time, and for alerting others in a timely manner. Zac Costa, Don Jones and I were fortunate to arrive when this evening around 5:30, as we were able to watch the pair of Herons for about a half hour before they flew off. We watched one of them head north, just a short distance away, where it touched down, barely out of sight. The other one snuck away when we found ourselves distracted by flying swallows.
What started as three birders upon grew to six when three innocent bystanders were recruited. A young woman, Hannah, waiting for her sister to pick her up, was easily swayed to stop looking at her phone and follow us to a good viewing spot. Another couple, fishing nearby, was lured away from catching fish to seeing the herons do it naturally. I was impressed to see them replace their rods with binoculars, enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime look at these rare birds! All these folks thanked us for this opportunity, when really it is C.J. and Kathleen that deserve the thanks!
Pass it on!
