When I looked under the feeders the other day, I saw a bird that looked so
exotic I was sure it was a new yard species. Which it was, sort of. Fred
took photos, and we watched it for about 15 minutes before it flew off.
After searching through field guides, we decided it was a first-year male
Rose-breasted Grosbeak. What a gorgeous creature!
We'll see an adult male now and then in spring, but they don't stick around.
