After its absence through the latter part of the summer into fall, the red bellied woodpecker has rejoined the hairy and downy at our suet feeder today. I heard it in the tree before it swooped down to the feeder.
I am starting to see many more birds at the feeders this week after a quiet fall: cardinals, mourning doves, house and gold finches, chickadees, nuthatches, juncos, blue jays, as well as the woodpeckers mentioned.
