Nice day at Moose Bog. 5 Black-backed Woodpeckers were seen and photographed
along the trail area. 3 interacting on one tree together. Quite a bit of
calling & drumming from Pileated and Hairy Woodpeckers also. Large numbers
of Pine Siskins mixed with some Goldfinch and a few Purple Finch.
White-winged Crossbills are still active (male & female) and at least 2 Red
Crossbills were heard. Brown Creeper sang once and at least 4 Gray Jays are
still looking for handouts. Although grouse tracks have been found the last
few weeks, still haven't caught sight of one. Good place to look is the
exposed roots of any recent blowdowns ..for sand & grit. Full report.
