The pileated wp who is not in the nest hole has been hanging around the 2 dead trees near my house, pecking and chasing away the singing flicker and the squirrel who came to the trees. Been watching this for 10 minutes and then things got quiet.when the flicker started singing on a tree down the road a bit. Then the flicker returned to the pileated's tree and is singing away again undisturbed. Lots of holes on the tree. Not sure if any are occupied other than the one the pileateds have claimed.
