I saw an interesting duck at Delta Park this afternoon, a bird that I think is a Eurasian Wigeon/American Wigeon hybrid. The buffy (not white) pate is what caught my eye, but the bird also had a distinctive rufous breast and gray back. The bird's head showed an eye patch similar to that of an American Wigeon, but less distinct. I posted a not-very-helpful i-phone photo with my VT eBird report.
This bird was foraging with a small group of Mallards in the bay at the north end of Delta Park. There are still lots of shorebirds at the park, especially BB Plovers and Dunlin. Also, there were hundreds of Canada Geese (including a leucistic goose) near the bridge over the Winooski River and hundreds of ducks in flight after a flyover by two Bald Eagles.
Lots of activity on a chilly October day.
