Maeve - looks like the real thing, and can be so devastating. I don't know what kind of feeders you use. If they are of the tube kind where birds probe their bills into a port where infected birds can leave their bacteria waiting to infect the next poor soul, take down those feeders and disinfect them with Chlorox to help prevent spreading the bacterium that causes this insidious affliction.
But let me tell you based on my banding studies at Jenny Lake in the NY Adirondacks with PUFIs, some afflicted birds survive; one of which was 6 yrs after infection.
