For those of you who might be searching for Lapland Longspurs this winter I found five in a mixed flock of Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, and Lapland Longspurs this afternoon. There is a farm on Little Chicago Road in Ferrisburgh directly across the road from Walker Road that is a regular gathering spot for these species.
The snow banks made counting these birds accurately problematic, but I got good looks at them on the ground and in the air. A nice flock for a cold day.
