Fun morning birding today on the Little Chicago, Sand, Hawkins Roads loop,
highlighted by a flock of at least 100 redpolls associating with an even
larger flock, perhaps 300, of snow buntings on Sand Road just before Grosse
Point Rd. They were swirling around the field west of the road, although
the redpolls landed right on the road at one point. Also along the loop
were at least 50 tree sparrows, one Savannah sparrow, three red-tailed
hawks, one peregrine falcon, one red-bellied woodpecker, and four bald
eagles at Ft. Cassin.
